“As For Me and My House”
Joshua 24:14-15
Chapter 24 of Joshua could easily be called Joshua’s final farewell speech. Joshua reminds the people what God has done. Not only in their life but in their history. How God had divinely brought them to this point. As in our own congregation, God has given us a rich heritage of faith that has been ongoing for over 100 years. Josuha did not stop with simply recalling God’s faithfulness in the past he offered a challenge for the future. It is a challenge that we find from Genesis to Revelation it is “serve God and him only”. Joshua’s call, “choose you this day whom ye will serve; ….. but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Train up a child is more then just talking about faith it’s about living that faith. What are we teaching our children? What are we telling them? “Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it:” (Psalms 127:1) Joshua is sending a call this morning. We are being called (challenged) train up our families in the Lord, to have homes that stand out and are different than the world. As we tell the next generation we are building homes that belong to the Lord.
Questions:
1. How did Joshua begin his farewell speech?
2. How does his challenge affect us here at Zion?
3. What does “Tell the Next Generation” have to do with faithful homes?
