“The Christian’s Power Plant”
Acts 2:1-13
In western North Dakota we know a little about how power plants operate. We’ve seen how these plants are built and the coal that is used to run them. And just recently we have been reminded how each plant has only a certain length of time before it becomes obsolete and outlives its usefulness. We need electric power every day. We all can't stand it when the power goes out. We look for any kind of temporary fix until power comes back on. The truth is any other power other than the power of THE HOLY SPIRIT is only temporary power. THE HOLY SPIRIT power will never outlive its usefulness. THE HOLY SPIRIT power will never become obsolete. THE HOLY SPIRIT power will never be replaced with better technology. THE HOLY SPIRIT power will never be taken over by a more efficient ways to produce spiritual power. It’s the power we need. It’s the power we have. THE HOLY SPIRIT is the Christian’s power plant. In Acts 2, we see the fulfillment of one of Jesus’ most important promises. The apostles didn’t know exactly what was going to happen & when it was going to happen. All they knew at that point was that Jesus had taught them about THE HOLY SPIRIT & had given them a command to stay in Jerusalem until the Spirit came. And then it happened! What a moment! What a fulfillment of the promise! What a life-changing experience! Every Christian today is given the power of the Holy Spirt at their baptism. The Holy Spirit is the power plant within us. That Power gives us the ability and strength to share the Gospel.
Questions:
1. Why is the Holy Spirit’s power different then the world’s?
2. What was the promise that Jesus made to the disciples?
3. When does the Spirit give us this power?
